I'm not comparing my 1991 to a custom 1911. I am just comparing the tolerances between my Colt and the bottom of the line Fusion Freedom Series 1911 that I bought new for $527 OTD at my local FFL's shop.
It is my understanding that the Fusion is a semi-custom? Am I wrong on that? I could be, it's happened before...

I enjoy no Fusions, but I do have one Colt. It's a hardchrome .45 that I bought about 2 years back. The finish and fit are both excellent. The trigger stinks, but other than that, I like it a lot. It's not Dan Wesson tight, but the fit is very good. Mike

The Fusion Freedom series 1911's discussed here are $795 blasters for the masses. I own one. Great shooter, and much closer tolerances than my 1992 Colt Govt which is a rattle trap with it's generous slide to frame fit, but the Colt locks up good and shoots as well as it needs to.

Fusion does offer custom built guns however, mine is their base, no frills Freedom Series 1911 government with an MSRP of $695. They have 10 models in their Freedom Series ranging in price from $695 to $1195 MSRP. Above that is their Premier and Pro Series, with at least 10 more models ranging in price from $2495 to $3995. If none of those are quite what you want, they also have a custom shop that can build what you want.

Plus they sell all sorts of small parts, barrels, frames and slides which was my experiences with Fusion until this Govt GI 9mm.

I am reading the comparison and am smiling. So what that the colt is not as well finished. If it shoots what you are aiming at, thats the most importance. I have a 1973 Colt Gold Cup National Match. Bought it new after a few years back from Vietnam. I have over 70,000 rounds through it. The only thing that has worn out was the barrel and the extractor. With the proper powder and bullet, I have sub 1" groups at 50 feet. I have purchased two new 1911's since and still use the Gold cup as the gold standard for accuracy and trigger pull. What it boils down to is personal preference and how far in price and looks you want to go. I hope KS95B40 enjoys them both for what they are

Ohrings, I do enjoy both. The only point that I was trying to make with the picture comparison was my surprise at how close the machining tolerances on a $500 1911 are, not that the Colt isn't any good. They are both accurate and fun to shoot.

Semi custom is a funny term,MY QUESTION? what is a full custom? can we base it on price alone? man hours? preference of options? Jesse James I believe is making full customs.Any 1911 that gets hands on attention by a skilled gunsmith off the line IMO is custom. At least that's what I tell myself to sleep better.lol

Fusion still has extremely poorly fitted grip safeties.

Not on the $800 Fusion I just bought. It's not as nice a fit as a DW at twice the price, but better than a new Colt combat rail gun I shot at the same price point as a Wesson.

Edit: pic added. Y'all can be the judge. I'm happy with the gun at this price.
(That's not a Fusion thumb safety. Ed Brown)

I think my local dealer for Fusion is going to try to get the Servas up to Sanford NC next month for a little exhibit. There are one or two things I'd like to see them do differently, but honestly to have a 1911 that runs great at this price with front strap checkering, recessed/countersunk slide stop pin along with the other usual 1911 features it just seems like a bargain to me. The finish is not that durable, and I'm not crazy about the sights that come on it, but it seems to be a great platform to make it "your own" which I do with match blasters anyway.

I changed the sights, thumb safety, grips, added magwell, extractor, and lowered trigger pull by about a pound, and I've got a real shooter for around a $1100 that is exactly like I want it.

I must say, I do like those grips, dramatic difference in the look IMO.

The truth is, I think I enjoy playing barbie dolls with my 1911's as much as shooting them. When I can get a "base" gun at this price with features not otherwise available at this pricepoint, and then start changing and fitting everything I like, and don't mind beating on it at matches and dry fire with lots of holster/unholster in a kydex holster it's just the right platform for me.

I purchased a stainless 10mm Govmt top of the line 1911 from Bob when he first started fusion. It was a beautiful piece. After going back to Bob three times the gun jammed and stovepiped continually. I got fed up and traded it off never looked back. Seems like they are better now.
