Now that we have a CCW section, should this post be revived and place at the first position of the section?

The West Ashley Toyota Sign is not legit (unless they have changed it very recently), I've carried in there before.

One of the biggest offenders in my area, GOODWILL! I will never make a donation to Goodwill!

I just took a CWP class. They said nothing about legal signs! They only mentioned if it was posted "no guns", any sign.
So I am a bit baffalled about legal signs.
If I carry in a place that is posted, they will simply ask me to leave or i will be in a deep discussion down at the station of why I was carrying where it is posted?

So, I am not sure what you mean about a legal sign?

if the sign doesnt meet the legal standards then it does not matter , you are not required to disarm. info on the signs can be found here www.scfirearms.org

this is easier:
SECTION 23-31-235. Sign requirements.

(1) clearly visible from outside the building;

(4) contain a black silhouette of a handgun inside a circle seven inches in diameter with a diagonal line that runs from the lower left to the upper right at a forty-five degree angle from the horizontal;

(5) a diameter of a circle; and

Thanks guys ;)
BUT- On a more practicle side. Do I want to be the test case to prove to a buisness that they yhave posted the wrong type sign?

What practicle application does having this information about legal signs provide. If I carry in a place that has an illegle sign, and then defend myself from a bad guy with a gun - Will I be charged for carrying in a posted location, up to three years in jail, fined and lose my cwp for 3 years?

If the sign is illegal you shouldn't be charged with anything.

Haywood mall sign in Greenville is not a legal sign.

Barnyard flea market in Greer is not legal either. Barnyard falls under this requirement...

(C) If the premises where concealable weapons are prohibited does not have doors, then the signs contained in subsection (A) must be:

(1) thirty six inches wide by forty eight inches tall in size;

(2) contain the words ?NO CONCEALABLE WEAPONS ALLOWED? in black three inch tall uppercase type at the bottom of the sign and centered between the lateral edges of the sign;

(3) contain a black silhouette of a handgun inside a circle thirty four inches in diameter with a diagonal line that is two inches wide and runs from the lower left to the upper right at a forty five degree angle from the horizontal and must be a diameter of a circle whose circumference is two inches wide;

(4) placed not less than forty inches and not more than ninety six inches above the ground;

(5) posted in sufficient quantities to be clearly visible from any point of entry onto the premises.

SECTION 23-31-240. Persons allowed to carry concealed weapon while on duty.

Haywood actually has a mix of proper and improper signs. As for the Barnyard legal sign or not if your found on premises with a firearm you are escorted off the property by undercover law enforcement. There are several UC there at all times.

Like i said before legal sign or not if its posted I DO NOT PATRONIZE THAT ESTABLISHMENT.

I also stay out of places that have signs. I don't worry about illegal signs if I need to go there. The only signs I've seen at Haywood are these. Definitely not legal...

Just some semantics:

Illegal: means punishable by law. if they were illegal...you could report them to a LEO and have them removed or more.

These signs are not illegal. They are just not enforceable by law.

I just wanted to clear the air.

For example. I do go to Toys R Us even though the label on the door tells me not to. Those labels are not enforceable and I CAN NOT be penalized under the law. They can only ask me to leave because it is a private company.

That is a personal choice. Personally I have no issue practicing my right on a non-compliant sign.

No. GrassRoots pushed for the description of the sign. You can not be charged with a non compliant sign. They could only ask you to leave. If you don't then they could push for other complaints.

I agree with you the term Illegal, thebrasilian. That term has been uses every since the debate over signs began. Even when I talked to SLED today she referred to them as illegal signs. The term Non-Compliant is a better term. The whole reason the requirement was put into the law was when SC first started issuing permits everyone was putting signs in their store fronts. They were scared of the so called 'gun fights' that were to happen every day. Remember FL when they changes their laws, people were handing out flyers to out of country tourist warning them that they could get shot! Since this is a SHALL issue state this undermined the intent for CC. Even today not many know of the requirements for signs. I'll never bring it to their attention either. No sense in causing compliant signs to pop up!

Guess we need to start a new list thread since this one has gone WAY off balance.
